The Outside Pool on Zaandam

In the position of the traditional fantail pool of the classic liners, Zaandam’s outside pool area seems to span across acres of teak decking literally, covered, with hundreds of lounge chairs. In contrast to the relative shelter provided pools placed midship, here, the feeling is of openness, where passengers truly experience a real affinity with the ship and the sea. Every inch, excepting the splash area that separates the pool from the containing dyke, is covered in authentic teakwood which is properly, and, beautifully maintained.

Refreshments are easily obtained from the adjacent pool bar, or through the attentive pool stewards hovering, ever at the ready. Chaises are resin; each supplied with comfortable pads. Matching drink tables are in ample supply. A row of umbrella shaded tables lines the decks leading edge, sheltered from the wind by the ship's superstructure. Snacks are readily available from the Lido Restaurant just inside.

There are cows here!!!??

Two brightly colored ceramic cows lay in the splash area of the pool’s farthest edge; their gazes set on guests as they enter the pool area. Although the symbolism escapes, me, definitely, this is certain to spark a topic of conversation. Perhaps, that IS the sole intention!

Typically this pool can be expected to remain open an hour later than the main one, the hours being: 7:am until 10 PM.
